Has anyone here ever tried to build "open source" hardware from scratch? How easy is it to order all of the components online for a circuit diagram etc.

@daniel @amin not an expert, it depends a lot on whether the hardware and components are selected with home assembly in mind. You can imagine that you might have two suitable ICs, one offers a better discount when buying at scale but the other is more widely available in quantities of one or two, not needing to buy a lot. If the designer designed the component to make the most sense for them, and published the plans, but it’s not trivial for goofballs like us to get the part, then it’s open source but it’s not designed for home assembly. One does not necessarily mean the other.

For experts that actually know what they’re talking about, hit up the Tangara people. That project seems to be designed for home assembly, if you want.

Yeah, at least one person successfully built their own Tangara before the first batch shipped.
