Been experimenting with SSTV decoding. The best decode in this example is a direct capture from the FT-857 + SignaLink w/ QSSTV app.
The worst capture is holding an iPhone up to the 857’s speaker decoded with Black Cat’s app.
Oddly, the mid quality is from holding a Sony pocket recorder next to the 857’s speaker then playing the recording back to the iPhone and Black Cat’s app.

Anyway, the goal is to get in the backyard with an HT and yagi for the upcoming ISS SSTV event. Thinking about using the Sony pocket recorder to record the audio. I'm guessing that will be easier than trying to decode with the iPhone in real time.

@K4HCK Recording is A LOT easier than trying to decode in real time, for sure. I record it on my phone or on an audio recorder.

@ai6yr Glad to hear that! That would open up the iPhone to be used to aim the yagi. NASA's Spot the Station app has a nice AR feature.
