Just got done reading Peony in Love by Lisa See and Piranesi by Susanna Clarke and my head is full of beautiful worlds. Both books filled me up in such unexpected ways.
Peony in Love I thought was just a romance novel but it was about woman’s rights, human emotion, keeping secrets and what it’s like to be a hungry ghost. The descriptions of the afterlife are AMAZING!
Piranesi was so beautiful and not as harsh as I thought it would end up being. The descriptions of the house are so lush and beautiful.
Both books are similarly about adapting to realities and accepting them. Both main characters find peace in different ways and learn to survive and thrive. Both learn that the people they think they know are keeping secrets.
Both ladies are amazing writers. I have to dig into my library and find something to follow these up with now.
Anyway, I know neither of these books are new but if you’re looking for some thoughtful escapism, here it is.

@infernusgoatus right, I found it so relaxing in such a strange way. I’m so glad the main character was so together about everything. I initially imagined it having a harsher ending which would have been awful.

@napalousa @infernusgoatus I loved Piranesi! At first all of the Proper-Noun-ing was confusing, but by the end I had a little mental map of the house in my head to follow along.
