Day 21: Happy solstice!

This beaded fringed lamp is one of my favorite pieces, with a repeat pattern that I designed of a fiery-throated hummingbird sipping from a flame calla lily.

My lamp has a bit of a story behind it. 

I bought this fringed lamp at an estate sale. But the fringe wasn't quite my style.

So I started looking online for a replacement fringe. But the fringes I loved were either outrageously expensive or custom pieces that weren't for sale.

I decided to make my own. How hard could it be?

I love hummingbirds and calla lilies, so I sought out reference photos to incorporate them in my design.

I looked into beading techniques (I had never beaded something like this before) and made a pattern.

Each panel had 75 strands of 51-86 beads per strand. 5,540 beads total per panel.

With 4 panels total for my lamp, I needed 22,160 beads.

I grabbed a ribbon to anchor my strands and started beading!

2 months later (beading diligently, multiple hours per day) I was done!

And now this lamp brings me sunshine and joy every time I see it.
