2 months later (beading diligently, multiple hours per day) I was done!
And now this lamp brings me sunshine and joy every time I see it.
Happy solstice!

With 4 panels total for my lamp, I needed 22,160 beads.

I looked into beading techniques (I had never beaded something like this before) and made a pattern.
Each panel had 75 strands of 51-86 beads per strand. 5,540 beads total per panel.

I love hummingbirds and calla lilies, so I sought out reference photos to incorporate them in my design.

So I started looking online for a replacement fringe. But the fringes I loved were either outrageously expensive or custom pieces that weren't for sale.
I decided to make my own. How hard could it be?

My lamp has a bit of a story behind it.
I bought this fringed lamp at an estate sale. But the fringe wasn't quite my style.

Day 21: Happy solstice!
This beaded fringed lamp is one of my favorite pieces, with a repeat pattern that I designed of a fiery-throated hummingbird sipping from a flame calla lily.

Day 20: it's the last day before the solstice! I'm getting ready to celebrate increasing sunlight in the days to come. 🌞
This is a vintage tole chandelier that I painted with oil paints after having removed the wiring and primed the metal with self-etching primer. I adore the profusion of vibrant flowers.

Day 19: a stained glass clock I made for our kitchen, portraying garlic, hatch chiles, and onions (all of which are staples in our cooking). It fits perfectly between two windows above our sink.

Day 18: For #WIPWednesday, a double-hung stained glass window. My design features flowers that grow all over San Francisco: California poppies, Douglas irises, and angel's trumpets.
The bottom pane is done, complete with soldering and putty in the lead came. I've just started cutting glass for the top pane.

Day 16: kicking off my last work week for 2024 – my colleagues and I created this mural during our recent team offsite. We took an amazing graffiti class at the STRAAT in Amsterdam (https://straatmuseum.com/) for our team building exercise, and left a bit of Wikipedia behind. 🌐
