this is your regularly unscheduled reminder that #ABA for #Autistic kids is basically torture. dog-training has outgrown these methods but a so-called critical treatment for autistic kids hasn't. don't support it, don't think you know better than survivors.
and yes, so-called newer ABA is better, in some ways, but it's not actually better. ABA forces kids to suppress their autistic behaviours in order to fit neurotypical molds, with a reward/punishment model and often without access to expressive language.
ABA was common in the 1990s, including in fields such as speech therapy which weren't officially ABA.
talk to #ActuallyAutistic #Autistic people instead of believing the pretty whining of 'autism parents' or parents that make their kids' diagnoses their full-on personality.
