Had a discussion about AI with Adam today, who told me I sounded like a luddite, and I can understand why he would say that, but also I'm just so sick of people using ChatGPT as a substitute for thinking, and also that it's integrated into every damn platform without us even asking for it, and that it's creating literal tonnes of CO2 while doing that.

It's not that I'm against AI, I'm against the uselessness of it, the unnecessariness of it. Please, use it for processing data, use it to help improve climate models or the many other important and helpful applications. But just the careless waste, that really shits me

@teadrinker I’m with you, just casual use of AI for a laugh while wasting water & burning carbon while stealing artists content has made me so annoyed.

And it is everywhere.

I’ve likened it to micro plastic pollution before- no way to retrieve it and it’s already out there.

@teadrinker yes this Great if it helps better detection of cancer on x-rays, utterly bumshite if used to make another picture of your neighbour looking like a dog or producing text that should have been the end result of your thought process

@monkeyborg To be clear, we weren't arguing, it really was just a good discussion (which is not something I conveyed in my post very well) And in his defence, it wasn't an accusation as much as a concern that in the industry where I work (media), it's being used so often that if I refuse to use it, I will risk not developing skills I need to get promotions or a job with a different org. And in that sense, he's right. But also I hate it here, haha
