I started reading the Spelunky book by Derek Yu, the designer of the game. I expected to just learn more about game design, especially in the context of procedural generation.
From the first chapter I see a way one could choose to make an innovative and fun (and too difficult for me) game without a lot of resources. As a player, I knew at the time more recent clones of the games that inspired Spelunky.
In addition to that I'm now aware of Lara Croft being indirectly inspired by Donald Duck.

@bazkie Yes.
It's from Boss Fight Books, my previous experiences of them were that these are fun books about games I played, ones I learned new things from, and ones I won't read until I spend book-series-worth-of-time playing a game. I have some of them from Humble Bundle.
This one currently matches my expectations of the series.

@lukyan cool! I'm interested even tho I've never played spelunky (but I hear a lot of good things about it, so I should probably buy and try that first! (kinda hesitant tho since I generally suck at platformers lol)
