@thedaemon like, I pressed the stupid “advanced” button so give me a “yes, I know what I’m doing” underneath that, most normies will already be too scared to press the advanced button so treaitng me like a 3yr old isn’t doing anyone any good

@Reiddragon @thedaemon IMO there is value in raising friction a bit to accept self-signed certs etc. The easier it is to ignore, the more likely a normie will brainlessly click the “OK, whatever” button and get MITMed.

@Reiddragon @thedaemon Nah, the sorta person that is good with checking self-signed sites is the kinda person that’ll quickly figure out “Advanced…”

… anything normie-facing should just use a CA-backed cert. We’ve got LetsEncrypt, the reasons not to do so have dwindled greatly. [This isn’t to say I like this model, but it’s the one we’ve got.]

The only time a site was hijacked (that I know) was from an ISP or a Firewall, never had a hacker man in the middle attack me on a site. Just CORPs.
