I’ve said this before, but the fact that pretty much every fedi scraper/bot/etc. developer gets immediately shot with a gun is bad, and seriously misaligns incentives. :kjubej_pafita:

A strange developer that announces their obvious scraper bot (that individuals and instances can block) is bleeding out, while the evil ones with secret bots sip their tea contentedly. People need to be okay with opt-out here, or we just functionally encourage the evil ones. :gutkato_malica_kunmetas_manojn:

Posts on fedi are literally public, in any case. This isn’t a private chat-room, I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect others to treat it that way. :jamada_gesto_stulteta:

I’m kinda happy to see that the old reddit-like https://raddle.me/ is less active nowadays. Noone’s posting or commenting, really, anymore. :gutkato_trinkas_teon:

I’m happy because, wow, that place was kind of a cesspool. Like, beyond the drama of the admin creating a bunch of puppet-accounts and pitting them against each other and real users in a complete puppet-show of ideological debate that turned vicious sometimes†, the culture was genuinely awful.

They had purity-testing and dogmatic behavior to the extreme, especially in support of psychotic political opinions. See, the site was an anarchist community; I consider myself libertarian leftist, but these guys were just wildly intolerant of any pragmaticism whatsoever. :gutkato_xwx:

If you were to dare suggest voting or canvassing, for instance, you’d practically get tackled and instead be recommended direct action or striking instead. I think both of these things are very good, but they are not the end-all be-all of politics.

Voting is generally quite important; while it won’t change the world, it can bring about a polticial climate more amicable to your positions and less harmful to those around you. That to me, is obvious and completely inarguable. Anti-electoralism is dangerous, and I find that kind of apathy unacceptable. However, this sort of ineffective apathy took the spotlight on raddle. :gutkato_ĝengrimacas:

… I’m rambling, now. In any case, while raddle has a dear place in my heart and I enjoyed my time there: Good riddance. It wasn’t all bad, and there were good values championed, but… the overall taste left in my mouth wasn’t good, in hindsight. I don’t think that site was a very good influence on me.
