Toot

Boy does my stamp making company know how to make me feel guilty. Ordered two extra letters for a set I already owned & the letters didn't match placement of the other letters in the set. (They were aligned too low.) The company said they had purged the files for the old sets so they weren't sure how to make them align. To correct the matter, they sent me a whole new set. That's great customer service but whereas I spent $8 for the additional letters and the new set cost $230, I feel guilty.

I feel extra guilty because unbeknownst to them, I am enrolled in a machining course and soon won't need them. I'll be able to make my own.

But I already know enough to wonder, why couldn't they just raise the type a mm higher to correct the misplacement? Why would they purge those files? Yes, they're large but they could keep them on an external drive, just in case. Are they designing these sets or just buying them preprogrammed? Are there any actual machinists there?

@JamesK Couldn't they have just adjusted the "y" offset a few hundreds of an inch positive to correct the letters I ordered?

@DevlinLeathercraft

Due to lay-offs, cost cuttings, managerialism, and job rotations the institutional memory is eroding fast. Nobody knows anything anymore. I’m hired as an external. I need the internal employees. Those that know are getting fewer and fewer. This will not end well.

@gingerlanche No it won't end well. I'm glad I'm learning a skill that may be eliminated from tech schools in the future. That knowledge will still be needed in some sectors but will be increasingly hard to come by.
