Dear US NSF - demonstrating your commitment to valuing all research products (not just papers) requires reporting that treats all products equally. Formally adding datasets was a great start (thanks!), but now we need software and other products to be part of the Public Access Repository.

As it stands every year I have to manually re-add software products, lesson material, and websites. They are often tucked under "other product" and it's just a text box. No DOI's, no metadata, just a text box. In contrast papers (& now datasets) have rich metadata and DOIs and persist across reports.

@ethanwhite this has long bothered me too. Feels like a strange gap, though the fact that the data management plan isn’t more general as well is consistent.
(Although publishing in a venue like @joss is one hack!)
