Can anyone explain to me what's going on here?
I just installed #ElementaryOS 8 and was attempting to install #Firefox from the repo and it appears it wants to install a snap?
I know elementary OS has integrated #FlatPak support, which is great, but I would like to stay away from snaps if at all possible.
Instead, I installed Firefox from the EOS app store.
I'm no #Linux expert but what is snapd squashfs-tools that it wants to install?

@Judeau ElementaryOS is based on Ubuntu, which is undergoing steady enshitification with Canonical's proprietary products. Part of this is that for some years now, some packages, including firefox, don't work as expected, and instead silently install the version from Canonical's proprietary app store, Snap, giving you both said enshitification and a buggy, randomly crashing, insecure Firefox.

@nik I always avoided Ubuntu myself, but I had no idea that Elementary OS used it as a base. I thought Elementary OS was built directly on Debian.
That sucks as I really REALLY like this distro. It's been a few years since I've had it installed and I was excited to get back into it. π
