I have an old HP Stream laptop I’m getting ready to try to sell. I just did a fresh install of Windows 10, but it fills all the internal storage. It’s unable to run updates because there’s no available disk space.
So, I’m thinking, maybe I should install Linux on it. That’s what I had on there before. My question is what distribution?
If you were prepping a machine to sell, what would you install on it?
[#]linux

My preferred distro is #slackware, but I don’t think it’s the right choice for something that someone else is going to use.

@tedchoward i would consider an immutable distro like Bluefin (fedora based)

@tedchoward whoa but are these the specs for the thing?

4 GB of RAM and only 32 GB drive? bit tight but i've run Bluefin on 4 GB of RAM. it's usable. you just can't open too many apps.
do you know how to use Nix? this seems like a neat project. i tried it before.

but this would probably need you to do occasional support for them

@tedchoward Ubuntu 24.04.1

@tedchoward If the machine is crumbling under weight of modern software then maybe just Debian bookworm with Gnome for simplicity.

@tedchoward Honestly, I'd probably leave it on Win10, and make a note about it in the description (if the marketplace something ebay/craigslist-like, not a linux forum or hashtag)
Seller is either able/willing to upgrade the storage or install Linux themselves.
And so it shows that it can run Windows 10, whereas there's no value in showing that something can run Linux, as anything with more compute power than a badger can do that.
