Thinking about Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? suddenly, specifically the part where almost all the animals are dead so people have robotic pets and the most valuable are the ones that look so realistic that no one talks about how they're fake - to the point that the technicians are all disguised as vets.
(There's so much about that book that's interesting to me that never made it into Blade Runner, which is why I dislike the latter)

@scarfwitch I've never seen Blade Runner (not on principle, it's just one of the movies I haven't seen), but Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep really hit me in an uncomfortable, uncanny sort of way.
Something between "I feel seen" and "this is way too real" maybe, but also a little "am I having a fever dream"
Even just like, the specific perception of luxury of a pet owl, almost relatable, yet—that's not what you're supposed to do with an owl!
