Toot

Written by Torsten Torsten on 2024-12-06 at 18:31

Update: Found out that #Mobilizon is still maintained and that many of it's bugs have been killed. So I'll go with that: https://events.tchncs.de/@konzerte_leipzig

...

Does anyone know of a public #Gathio or #Gancio instance for #music events, (a.k.a. #concerts) in #Germany, #Saxony or even #Leipzig? :hacker_l: :hacker_e:

I'm planning a series of #folk concerts with a friend and I don't wanna use #Facebook (or #Mobilizon - too whacky) as event manager anymore.

@torstentorsten Holy buckets, I've been meaning to try and build something like https://gancio.org/ for a while. I'm glad someone beat me to it!

I'll have to try this out when I get time!

@frigginglorious It's a great orga tool. Just lacking some more people clever enough to set it up =)

@torstentorsten @frigginglorious it is pretty straightforward to set it up for a small organization. Of course it needs someone with a step in IT world. Wrote about this https://rennerocha.com/posts/configuring-self-hosted-calendar-for-small-community/

@rennerocha Thanks for the hint! I know your tutorial, but despite me knowing how to do something on and with my webspace I seem to lack basic knowledge. Like "configure a DNS hosting to point it to a server." - So I thought other folks around here have figured that out already =)

@torstentorsten

Bei meinem Test von #Gancio ist diese Installationsanleitung entstanden:

https://wiki.hostsharing.net/index.php?title=Gancio

Sie ist möglicherweise nicht mehr aktuell. Aber bei @hostsharing kannst du den Service bitten, eine Installation für dich zu machen. Genossenschaftliches #Hosting hat Vorteile!

@torstentorsten

I am finding the replies to your query informative!

How did the first month with Mobilzon work for you?

(I'm not seeing many English language servers, so it might not even be an option for my group that needs a libre replacement calendar.)

@BRicker I can't complain. Does what it should and probably even more. I created a group, an event, a discussion. What more can one ask of an event calendar? =)

Why is it important to you to use an English language server? Meseems you can switch the language of the interface/surface/whatever it's called.

@torstentorsten 👍thanks!

(English: I noted at least some of the servers don't want to have to moderate non-local language posts, which is fair enough.

And for discoverability, search more likely will find a Boston US user-group if it isn't served from e.g. an Italin-first server.

There is one mobilizon.us which is decently federated, will probbly give that a try.)

@Torsten Torsten @Bill Ricker No need to use an external event service when basing Fediverse appearance on Hubzilla instead of Mastodon. A calendar is built-in, informing your followers by a standard post to their timeline.

Events/calendar entries by other can be entered into your own as well. @𝓒𝓱𝓻𝓲𝓼 has more info there, e.g. about webDAV, CalDAV and such things. • sent from #Hubzilla at #Fediverse.

@jrp I know. But the event doesn't look too beautiful in #Friendica or #Hubzilla. There's no header picture e.g. That's something #Gathio #Gancio or #Mobilizon have. @chris

@jrp yes, I am aware that Hubzilla (and Friendica) provide what they consider all-in-one service.

And the great joy of Fediverse is interoperability, it's not all :mastodon: .

Since our local user-group has mailing lists provided by parent org and has an acceptable web hosting arrangement, I'm only looking for a discoverable event / calendar to replace MeetUp. (Which i never wanted anyway, someone else signed us up and was paying.)
