Interesting to see Sony apparently planning a handheld PlayStation again, but now I'm back on the PC train there's very little chance of either Sony or Microsoft winning me back into their ecosystems. I've never been less interested in big budget games, and everything indie comes out on the PC sooner and for less money. And I don't need PS5 power for that.

@Blerkotron tbh I wouldn't bother either, purely because the Steam Deck does exactly what I want / need from a portable console, and I really don't like the way Sony handled portables in the past (the Vita was an excellent console but Sony more or less hung it out to dry as soon as it was clear it wasn't selling)

@peejmaybe @Blerkotron Hardware seems likely to become irrelevant if streaming is the future. Companies just want everyone get a subscription.
I still prefer physical editions but they are disappearing rapidly.

@iSabreman I'm the same. The Steam Deck is the only non-physical-media console I've ever bothered with. I guess one day there'll be no choice and that everything will either be digital download or (spit) streaming and I guess at that point I'll just catch up with my backlog or go solely retro

@iSabreman @peejmaybe I haven't bought a physical release in about four years now. When the discs themselves are basically useless without hundreds of gigabytes of downloads and updates there just doesn't seem to be any point. :-/

@Blerkotron @peejmaybe The choice of platform probably makes a difference as PC gaming has been mostly digital only for years.
Buying a digital AAA PS5 game seems an unnecessary risk when you can get the physical edition and sell it if it ends up being duff.
I agree about long term and the issue of physical editions needing patches and updates.

@iSabreman @peejmaybe Ah, that would make a difference - I never sell games on, so they just end up stacking up in giant piles!
