I've been feeling compelled to dive into a new hobby lately, because clearly I don't have enough. I'm trying to decide between Machining and Welding.
Both are very intriguing from the perspective of what they'll allow me to create. And both come with an investment in new tools and gear 😅
I already have a drill press, so maybe a hobbyist metal lathe and a belt grinder would be enough to let me start creating useful things and learning 🤔

@lukepeters oh... I was in a very similar state some years back. Indecision got the best of me and I did neither. I think machining is way more interesting, but each have their uses.

@bit101 Ah yeah I've been curious about both of these for a few years now and still haven't done anything haha
Machining does seem way more interesting as well as more challenging and expensive. Welding seems more approachable and randomly useful. Honestly having some skills and tools for both is even better 😄 But I know better than to jump into two new domains at the same time.

@lukepeters
I feel like welding is like carpentry whereas machining is like woodworking. Both valuable but it depends what your needs are. Whatever you do, I look forward to seeing how it goes.

@bit101 That's a nice analogy. I'll post here whatever happens!
