C++ RFC: There are exactly 8 bits in a byte.
I had no idea that bytes weren't always 8 bits. I suppose it's a bit like integers in that it evolved over time. Although this is one that has clearly converged.
But yes, the language still has it as an external/target defined constant rather than a specified part of the language.
