I am once again looking at USB-C. This time, I am looking at Thunderbolt 4 docks because enough people have them, so I can buy one used and don't need to spend 300 euros.

A used "Lenovo ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4" dock with a Thunderbolt 4 cable works. Both on a ThinkPad and a Macbook Pro (M4), with 2 4k screens at 60Hz, USB, audio, and charging.

Big trick is to use a USB-C to Displayport adapter to connect the 2nd screen on the Thunderbolt out port – otherwise the Macbook is not having it.
