Subscription-based software for individuals is a scam.
I’m happy to pay for a service that is relevant, privacy-preserving, and fit for my use case.
I’m happy to pay for each major version upgrade to sustain the team behind the product, get good UX and keep up with how things work.
But I want to buy software I can keep using offline for as long as my operating system allows.

@thibaultamartin
What do you think about intellij style "subscriptions"? They are called subscriptions but they work like pay for each upgrade, discounted. And keep what you paid for if you stop paying.

@portaloffreedom that sounds good enough for me, but I didn’t think it through entirely

@thibaultamartin meow, is this in some way different to any software that is distributed with an end user license agreement?

@Gnuxie I didn’t spend enough time thinking about it to give a satisfactory answer, but that is a good thing to consider. Thanks for bringing it up!
