Hey all, do any of you have an instant pot and if so would you recommend it?

@ndpi An “instant pot” is a pressure cooker, isn't it? If so, it's awesome for pulses :flan_thumbs:

@alderwick @ndpi it is, though an instant pot is a specific brand of eletric pressure cookers that can also be used as a crockpot.

A friend of mine swears by it, says it's his best appliance. I have a stovetop fagor pressure cooker my wife inherited from her grandmother and I love it, I can cook rice perfectly in 10 minutes and make rich tasting sauces in a quarter of the time. It's also great for rizotto, blanching and onion soup.

@alderwick @ndpi on a related note, cooking issues has a wonderful exploration of the effect of pressure cooker release mechanisms on flavour.

@mathuin looks up what “crockpot” means Aha! A slow cooker in my local tongue.

Thank you, that perfectly explains my confusion when I heard somebody using an Instant Pot™ for something that I was convinced was in slow cooking territory. Now I see they were using it in crockpot mode.

So @ndpi, if you were asking about Instant Pot™ specifically then I can also recommend the crockpot mode, cooking some recipes over ~6–8h saves a lot of electricity.

@alderwick @ndpi I was about to ask the same thing. Pressure cookers are fantastic! It's hard to do without, it saves a ton of energy and is useful for preserving food.

@ndpi we use our insta pot a lot, mostly for beans and legumes but we make a lot of things on it. Any pressure cooker will do, but the electric one is quite nice to set a timer and have the food be perfect every time. High recommendation from my side

@ndpi yes! I use my parent's old fagor one a lot when I visit, and they recently found an instant pot for me at the thrift store. I use it at least once a week, and I plan to get some insert pans for mine so I can cook rice and beans or steamed buns at the same time. I also use mine to make mulled drinks and sautés, and I plan to use it to sanitize things sometimes (mine actually has a sanitize mode, but I know some folks use regular pressure cookers as an autoclave. It just takes longer because steam saturation takes awhile).

@ndpi most commonly used device in my kitchen. All in one electric pressure cookers are also about as energy efficient as an induction range. Less energy loss to heating the air than a stove top pressure cooker.
