I find it discouraging that you're attempting to correct my approach, claiming you know the intent and spirit in which it was given, by saying the primary lesson I need to take away is that "can't know what and how I think" and articulating an assumption is "harmful labeling."
This tut tutting about labels and judgement seems very hypocritical, especially when several posts ago you talked about how you're hoping to surround yourself with "fewer people who bitch moan and complain, blame, spread negativity and gossip. No helpless victims that drag everyone down." This isn't me "judging" you as dichotomous, this dichotomy you set up yourself in a post -- between "role models" and "victims who drag everyone down."
Here's some more seeing you through the lens of my own experience (a grevious error apparently): this reads as the pot calling the kettle black. I don't see any "genuine curiosity" in this use of language in your earlier posts. I see "heavy assumption and harmful labeling" as you call it, and as I mentioned already -- an attempt to create sharp divides between people. This feels quite hypocritical to me that you use this language but object when people question why you're using it.
But I am learning that my approach to thought and language is going to be assumed to be negative or disingenuous here even by the those with power in this place (mods), which suggests to me this space is safer for your approach to thought than my own.
I probably should just keep my thoughts to myself from now on.

For some this idea that we lack free will may be scary, but it seems so if you mistakenly conclude this means we are incapable of changing. This is also scientifically false. We change all the time, but it is our environment, biological processes, dietary inputs, sensory inputs, etc. That really make the difference. And this is a good thing, because once you start focusing on altering your environment rather than willpower changes can become quite rapid.

I am not a fan of Huberman but this little 8 minute video is a great summary of Robert Sapolsky's view on will and determinism, which I broadly think is correct.
https://youtu.be/RI3JCq9-bbM?si=xkuoUx_R570msMHB
I found myself existentially terrified and angry when I first encountered his view, but after examining the actual scientific evidence we have available it became compelling to me.
My one deviation point is the question of whether consciousness has a quantum component, which doesn't undo determinism but also makes predicting what a person will do with any accuracy pretty much impossible with our current capacity. It goes a long way for me to explaining the predictability of groups and unpredictability of individuals.

@neauoire I know you've been on a Diablo 2 kick. If you want to try a D2 inspired roguelike I would suggest Halls of Torment.
Fun little thing made in a FOSS game engine (Godot).

Learned in the past month that Montana Medicaid won't pay for any weight-related preventative care EXCEPT an appointment where your doctor tells you to lose weight and calculates your calories using an app you can download for free.
No medications, no surgery, no nutritional coaches.

I honestly should have just invented a time machine, gone back to 2005, and invested my college funds in Apple instead of studying anything other than software engineering. All jobs are meaningless except software engineering. All hail the god of the machine. :moloch:

Taking a break from job hunting until after the new year. Going to focus exclusively on improving my health. Diet, exercise, sleep schedule.
But for this year my stats were:
976 applications. (Did several hundred on 2023)
2 recruiter screens
0 job offers
Infinite people telling me if only I'd (used AI, gone back to school, updated my resume a 30th time, networked better, etc.) then I'd have a job right now.
Instead of pretending I'm in total control of the process of wage labor I will focus on things I do have some small level of self-control over.

So, this campaign has been very rough. Apparently some changes to the way shooting works between TWW2 and TWW3 has made them much weaker. There is also apparently a bug with their mid-tier gun until where the rounds go over the heads of any human-sized or smaller enemy. I tried 5 restarts yesterday and by turn 30 in each game I encountered the nearest enemy faction's full stack and there was no way to beat them.
I'm going to investigate the mod system to see if I can make the adjustments needed myself. Maybe that would be a fun December adventure. Until then I am going to roll another faction.

Forgot it's US Thanksgiving weekend which means there's no point in applying for more jobs this week and that means more time to campaign.
This time the wheel turned up The Awakened - a Vampire Coast faction led by Luthor Harkon. Zombie Pirates and Blood-sucking sea captains.
This campaign doesn't have an overhauled set of victory conditions, so it will probably be quick.

Karaz-a-Karak Campaign complete in 71 turns. I thought this was going to take longer, but apparently all you have to do is conquer the right settlement to find the Anvil. Now to fight the final battle and call it a grudge settled..

Couldn't sleep last night due to anxiety so I started another campaign. This time It's Karaz-a-Karak (Dwarf Faction) with High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer.
Leading an army of permanently angry / aggrieved short kings feels appropriate right now.
The campaign routes for this one are kind of long. Gonna be a slog.

I think I will keep this to one campaign a week so I don't burn out. If they all last 50-100 turns I can probably do each one in a couple evenings.
I'll post the next one when I pick it. I decided to make myself an extra rule: as much as possible I'll avoid playing the same Race back to back. So next week no Elves
