My project studio redesign is complete!

Two months of work... ceiling replacement, planning, rerouting, new gear. Was it worth it?

@composergreg @synthdiy interesting thanks, new set up looks great. I'm tempted by the Allen & Heath CQ which does the same as the tascam. totally linux last few years here too - just wondering why the mixbus for DAW rather than eg ardour? does it have MIDI too?

@fuzzySynths @synthdiy

Great question! A while back I had a great conversation with @PaulDavisTheFirst (creator of Ardour) and he actually suggested the Mixbus option to me. So I gave it a try and have been very happy with it. 🤷

Mixbus provides the benefits of Ardour with the advantage of an out-of-the-box, analog console-style workflow along with a few custom utilities (gate, comp/leveler, a couple of eq models, etc.).

MIDI support is minimal, but I play everything in real time and have a hardware sequencer (Squarp Hapax) for those times I need it.

I probably would have gone with Reaper or Bitwig had I needed good MIDI support. (In fact I auditioned both...)

@composergreg @synthdiy thank you. Have found my way round Ardour now, but might take a look at Mixbus. Now using a Tracker+ for loop-baed MIDI hardware sequencer, as editing in Ardour is almost impossble.

BTW - I did look at the Allen & Heath CQ series and they look fantastic. It seems you get more bang for the buck there but in the end I preferred the simple, physical buttons and single purposed design of the Studio Bridge. I'd love to hear how it works out for you!

@composergreg @synthdiy CQ looks very convenient for recording on location, a nice all in one solution.

@composergreg @synthdiy very nice studio, I loved it. I also loved the all-Linux approach!
