A design principle that I need to remind myself of every time* I build some automation:
Don't build for relaxed operation on a calm day after a good night's sleep, with plenty of time for preparation.
Build for emergency operation under confusing circumstances, after being woken up at 3am, after a long hard day. With an angry CEO on the conference call.

Not sure how much of it was compensation for unrecognised ADHD, how much was the "fun" experience of scrambling around and figuring stuff out forensically during emergencies, but I'm all about front-loading the thinking, and have been for a long time.
