I’m thinking of possibly getting a 3D printer in the future, is there anywhere I can go to find one that isn’t from the Amazon website? #3dprinting #3dprinter

@GNavsSunglasses Do you want an appliance, a hobby, or a tool?
Appliance: Get a BambuLab
Hobby: Sovol/Voron
Tool: Get a Prusa
You can still have fun and make it a hobby with Creality and others. Many reviews on YT.

@teotwaki I’m not sure I disagree exactly but what is the difference in your mind between appliance and tool?

@amd @GNavsSunglasses The appliance is a black box. It’s not really repairable, barely serviceable. It’s intended for people who just want to use it.
The tool is reliable and maintainable. Maybe slightly rougher the edges, not as polished.
I dunno, it’s a pretty fluffy concept in my head.

@teotwaki @GNavsSunglasses Interesting. Not trying to bait a debate or anything.
💯 that the Bambu is a 3D Printing appliance. I’m just much less sure these days that the Prusa is more of a tool.
I’m going to be thinking it over too.

@amd @GNavsSunglasses Well, I’m looking at it this way: my Prusa’s had issues, sure, but every time it was a fix I was able to implement myself, typically printing replacement parts with the printer while it was failing. And I put about 1-200 hours/month on it.
My buddy’s A1 mini’s been around the world 3 times, and is basically a ship of Theseus at this point.
Only two anecdata points, I know…
