The platform discourse on Bluesky is pretty comic coming from Mastodon — pundits and armchair analysts think they invented wholly new takes about “protocols” and “federation,” fully ignoring a decade of prior work in the space. Hope they get the context soon!

@ryne There’s a lot happening on both sides for each group to learn from, but the blinders on each side are real — Activitypub still doesn’t have basic features and spends too much time dithering with needless organizational overhead, and Bsky thinks they invented the decentralized social internet.

@ryne (And, for the record, strongly think ActivityPub is going to “win” if it can figure out its issues. Better system with way more applications, integrations, and the future of a whole-ass open internet ecosystem, if it pans out!)
