Started reading “Small Rain” by Garth Greenwell recently (excellent so far) and it mentioned an album of Lieder by Mahler sung by the contralto Kathleen Ferrier.

So I put it on and the pairing of this music and this book is chef’s kiss 👌

Remarkable recording, despite the technical limitations of the time and the fact that she was already seriously ill when it was made.
