just learned that i grew up pentecostal

and that there is no such thing really as a 'non-denominational church.'

'non-denominational' is really just a buzzword to make the congregants feel like their church is free of influence from other people outside of the church. there's other reasons for it too, but that's the main one.

in the case of hillsong-esque megachurches, that has the additional effect of consolidating total power of doctrine under the charismatic head preacher.
