The weirdest shit breaks every time I update macOS. After updating to Sequoia, Spotlight no longer suggests applications, which is the primary way I launch them.
I used to install updates right away, but now I dread it and I always wait until IT Ops forces the update.
Is there a Linux distro that Just Works like macOS used to do in the good old days?

Tim Apple might have turned it into the most profitable company ever, but the quality of everything they do and make has taken a major hit IMO. Funny how capitalism works.

@michenriksen The Fedora I run on a laptop didn't mess up within years but it implies lots of frequent updates.
Otherwise I'm a happy BSD user. FreeBSD and OpenBSD have been rock solid without nasty surprises for at least 14 years now for me.

@dwardoric I don't mind frequent updates, as long as they are stable and don't mess with my workflows. ๐

@michenriksen Yea it's clear that Tim isn't Steve. The attention to detail has diminished, creativity and innovation are not running the company anymore. It's all about selling the iPhone n+1 for $100 more next year without major improvements.

@michenriksen Iโve almost never used spotlight. Always used third-party applications. Or Alfred or now Raycast. I havenโt noticed any problems yet.

@juev Spotlight has always worked perfectly as an App launcher for me. I don't know what's up, but I've tried clearing the index cache with onyX, and it's re-indexing now. Hopefully, that will fix it.

@michenriksen Good question, depending on your mood side recommend Sparky Linux.
Then again Bodhi is quite nice in terms of its compatibility with Ubuntu.
(Once I get my new review site working I'll cover the options but I find those do most things well) ๐
