These days it is easy to forget that justice and vengeance are two different things.
We must never forgive atrocities and evil done with full intent. But to err is human, and the torment of a guilty conscience is often punishment enough.
We have to find compassion and kindness even in the darkest of times. Because what else is there to give people hope?

The movie “Judgment at Nuremberg” (1961) is a rare gem. It explores the personal, moral, and judicial aspects of guilt and remorse in what have so far been the most heinous crimes against humanity in history.
It should really be mandatory viewing in every high school history class.
