Looks like most of the former photographers on here moved over to Bluesky and/or Threads....

@ThatDeafGuy Blue Sky has been very busy this month. It would appear that the #believeinfilm crew have made camp there as the film photo posts on X literally fell off the proverbial cliff.

@Jim_Graves @ThatDeafGuy ...I really don't understand why so many went to BlueSky instead of here. What's the appeal?!

@coldkennels @Jim_Graves @ThatDeafGuy There is a tendency here to scold people who don’t live up to them norms here. I don’t see that, but people I know who were here but are now mostly on BlueSky keep saying this, so there’s something to it.

@thereisnocat @Jim_Graves @ThatDeafGuy I've seen some "weirdness" on Mastodon, from bizarre self-censorship/trigger warnings (and the expectation of other people to follow the same arbitrary protocols) to the relentless hounding of people who forget/don't bother to use alt text on images. It becomes a bit puritanical at points, and I see how that could put people off... but the block button is RIGHT THERE. You don't need to leave because of it.

@coldkennels Yeah, the trigger warnings thing is the other thing I see cited by people who left Mastodon. Funny thing about alt text is that there's a strong degree of hounding people about it on BlueSky too. As someone who spent 30+ years ranting about the importance of accessibility to my fellow web professionals, I get it, and I’m glad to see it becoming a norm, but I think you get more with sugar than fire. (Or if not, getting sued helps; that changed things at one of my employers….)

@thereisnocat the funny thing is I've always used alt text on websites I've made, but on social media there have historically been so few options for including it and that just hadn't occurred to me before Mastodon existed. Even in Mastodon though, some apps/frontends have more prominent alt text accommodation when posting than others.

@ThatDeafGuy I don’t know, there’s still a decent film photography crowd here…not as much BSKY, but still good. Interestingly, my first stop in the morning is Masto, then BSKY. I wish the #believeinfilm crowd that’s only on BSKY would get their keisters over here.
