The Ken Burns Universe (sometimes you'd be searching for PBS or The American Experience) is pretty much what you're after for good summaries of the generally accepted history, but they sometimes lack a good historical reading, where the history reveals capitalism in its full glory.
The Huey Long one is a pretty good parable of American political corruption. It resounds harmoniously with today.
