Can someone tell me what "reply guys" means on Mastodon? I always heard it in the context of guys being overly flirty on women's selfies, but it seems to relate to discourse here?

@mayazimmerman Mostly about how many men post shitty replies which they themselves value highly.

Ignoring boundaries, telling women that they don't know their field of expertise, trying to use a more popular woman's post to gain attention for their shitty takes, sexist jokes, "just asking questions" aka sealioning.

That sort of thing.

It seems to fall into 4 categories

• snark at your post with little to no previous interaction

• flirting in response to a picture of a woman (that one you know)

• replying with authority to a topic you're actually knowledgeable about (mansplaining)

• demands or call outs regarding a claim you made or someone else has made that the guy seems to think you know. (something like sealioning)
