There's a pronounced drop in engagement with Photography on Mastodon/Fedi as well, it peaked and dropped off very quickly in 2022 which is great shame. I guess some have gone back to X and others onto Threads, or both, I don't know.
A fedi statistic stated there were over 16m accounts on the Fediverse, yet only 1m posting regularly. That's rather sad, this place (being on Mastodon) is wonderful and incredibly diverse.

@ThatDeafGuy I agree completely. I am also on Bluesky. There seems to be more film photography activity there. I wish more folks would find their way here.

@tomnorthfilm I'd rather not deal with yet another privately owned ads-in-your-face platform, it gets tedious after a short while.

@ThatDeafGuy As of yet there are no ads on BSKY, but they haven’t tried to monetize it yet, so there’s no telling where that platform will head. That’s why I’d like to see film photogs on BSKY make their way here. I much prefer Mastodon.

@tomnorthfilm @ThatDeafGuy Ah, so it's not just me! 😅
The gift and curse of multiple social platforms is that we have a choice. I'm on all three, which I feel is healthier because I don't get stuck in one place (I can be wrong, of course).
Bsky may actually have other monetization avenues aside from ads, and they are building a protocol similar to the one on Frediverse, so there are some possibilities out there.
I would love for Masto to succeed tho, I like this platform.
