@talkpython I migrated my Wait Wait Stats sites (which are build using Flask or FastAPI) from DigitalOcean to Hetzner for the same reasons.

Another nice thing is that they have ARM-based instances available in Europe, if you want to have cost-optimized hosting over there as well.

@mkennedy @talkpython Yeah, I've been hoping that they could bring ARM instances over here as well.

Their Debian images, especially for ARM instances, is a little minimal, but that's good for overall footprint and surface area, but can add to the learning curve to those who are new to the ARM server ecoysystem.

@qlp @talkpython It would be interesting to play with the ARM instances. Minimal would be fine I imagine. I just need enough to get Docker running and a few monitoring tools.

I do think Linux on ARM has a ways to go. But we’ll get there especially now with so many Windows ARM machines on the horizon.

@mkennedy @talkpython The biggest blocker that I had with Debian on ARM is the lack of an official MySQL Server build from either Debian or from Oracle.

I think Ubuntu created their own build, but I'm trying to move away from Ubuntu to Debian, and maybe introduce Rocky Linux into the mix in the future since Oracle does provide official ARM builds for RHEL/RL 9.

But, ARM-based Linux servers make a lot of sense for hosting Python, Ruby, Node.js applications, as well as lighterweight Docker workloads and static file hosting.
