Hi friends! I have some questions for you as I’m working to gather the last of my evidence on this platform for my social media class essay. First, here’s a picture of me and my mama at the wedding we attended this past weekend. And for the first time ever, I actually went on the dance floor and danced!
I wanted to dance because I’ve done my fair share of just sitting at gatherings, and it makes the time pass by so slowly. So I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, didn’t allow myself the chance to think about being embarrassed, and felt that the fear that comes with thinking about it completely faded as the evening went on.
In what ways do you feel that Mastodon have helped you interact with others about topics that you may not interact with in person? What motivates you to interact with the content/communities on mastodon? What do you think you get out of your interactions? #socialmedia #art #artist #student #MastoArt

I'm a longtime meditator, especially in the Zen tradition.
I relocated two years ago to a new part of the world (near Asheville, NC).
Noticed Zen-themed posts by a user here ... turns out they're a resident in a local Zen community.
I now regularly practice with them.
🙏🙂

@bodhidave that’s wonderful that you found someone with a common interest and now physically interact with them on a regular basis. I love how the internet can bring us together with people we might never have met without it! Do you feel that this relationship that began through the internet is different from relationships that you may first have developed in real life?

At this point in my life — retired, contentedly living solo on a hillside — relationships tend to connect with meditation practice. So it's a different "real life."
You remind me, though, a best online friend lives in Europe. But we've come to figure out that we used to live in the same city at the same time, and that we used attend the same meditation center — only she sat there in the mornings and I in the afternoons, and we never met in person there. :)
