I'm trying to actually celebrate Halloween a little by watching some horror movies that are not gorey and probably not particularly scary. This year (and probably next) I'm focusing on pre-1960 horror films.
Do you have any favorites that came out before Psycho that you would recommend? I'm looking for 2-3 total for this weekend and maybe Halloween itself.

Last weekend I watched Nosferatu and The Tingler, both of which I enjoyed! Definitely going to look into some more Vincent Price films.

@snowmanghost did I hear someone ask for opinions?? I always have them!
Some of my pre-1960 horror favs are:
House On Haunted Hill (1959)
The Old Dark House (1932)
House of Wax (1953)
13 Ghosts (1959)
Curse of the Demon (1957)
Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
The Uninvited (1944)
And then, of course, all of the old MGM monster movies.

@ElizabethLeeCo @snowmanghost Ach! I checked to see if anyone had mentioned Night Of The Demon before replying but missed that you had mentioned it here. Sorry!

@snowmanghost Beside the ones @ElizabethLeeCo already mentioned: The Bride of Frankenstein, The Phantom Carriage & The Creature From the Black Lagoon. Another favorite is Todd Browning's Freaks, but that's actually still genuinely disturbing, so I won't recommend that one to you, but in general.

@stina_marie @snowmanghost @ElizabethLeeCo Recommended. Pre 1960s horror classics. Not -too- scary

@snowmanghost Night Of The Demon (1957, also sometimes called Curse Of The Demon) is a pretty terrific film.
You know that line in the Rocky Horror theme song:
Dana Andrews said prunes,
Gave him the runes,
And passing them used lots of skill...
Well that's about this film. And there's a Kate Bush link too if you're interested. But putting all that aside, it's a good movie.

@snowmanghost Vampyr (1932) is a genuine classic, a little known gem
The Corpse Vanishes is pretty funny/ lighthearted with some genuinely weird spots and a girlboss reporter (1942)
The Old Dark House is just campy old James Whale goodness (1932)
Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein is a laugh a minute (1948)
and Doctor X (1932) is more mystery than horror but still full of vibes and weird film color choices
