Is the combo of 8086 + VGA at all common or is it generally assumed that a VGA card will only get used with a 286 or better?

@thelobdegg 8086-specific software would lean towards MDA/Hercules and CGA, but a VGA card will do those modes fine, and be much easier to connect to a display.

@thelobdegg Personally I plan to use a Graphics Gremlin, which does CGA and Tandy graphics on VGA screens.

The thing is, that's all historically relevant. As anachronistic as a VGA game for an 8086/8088 system would be, I'm curious if anyone has put together such a system. If so then the exercise could be a fun experiment to see what could be done sub 10MHz. If that system literally doesn't exist then the next step up would be a 286 game running above 12MHz.
