I have never been quite an "enthusiastic" WhatsApp user. I created an account because of some half-work related group in my previous job... and I closed the account some time after I left the job. But now, what truly fascinates me, is the number of people expecting it like the default option for communication. "Are you in our group? " is so often (annoying) question - "but we added you!" is the next phase... It sounds so familiar :-( #whatsapp

@trilobyte my usual answer is that I already have facebook, jabber, matrix, telegram, slack, tox and discord. Then after while I show my phone with Ubuntu Touch and ask if should buy new phone just because of WhatsApp. We are trapped in closed source technologies and there is no way to escape.

@jmlich Yeah, exactly: "trapped" is the proper word. Recently (last few years) I am somehow trying to reduce the number of closed environments surrounding me. So I already closed my Instagram account, as well as Viber, reduced Facebook to bare minimum, moved away from Google as mail service provider, photo backup service... By the way, my usual answer is like "I am not WhatsApp-ish", well, I really need to think about something more sophisticated 😁
