@CableSt This definitely needs to be done with the kids consent, or you're teaching them that those things aren't theirs, they just get to play with them until you get bored of them.

@fishidwardrobe @CableSt Some people are getting their kids more toys than they can possibly play with. They get the kids a whole toy store's worth of stuff. Some of that stuff gets unwrapped and never touched again.
Some people are holding onto old toys that their kids have not played with in years because they have the space to do that.
I don't think that the original post is about snatching toys out of your child's hand and giving them to the charity shop.

I always bring my daughter into the decision making by asking her to do the collecting. Books, clothes, toys. Consent can be built into a teachable moment, I think, about sharing what you don't need with those around you.
