I'm glad to announce the release of version 2.60 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:
Migration from a snac account to a Mastodon one has been implemented. Please see snac(8) (the administrator manual) for more information.
Fixed a bug in argument parsing regarding some special characters (contributed by ndagestad).
Fixed image emojis in the public profile bio.

@grunfink Great work! Thank you.
The fact you implemented the outbound migration (from snac to Mastodon) tells much about you - you're an open and helpful person. Still, I'm waiting for the opposite path - from Mastodon (or other solutions) to snac as I think many would like to try snac without losing their followers. 😉

Thank you so much.
I consider that every person is the legitimate owner of their data, so it's my duty to let people leave whenever they want with their assets, and avoid them being captive inside my software.
The opposite movement, bringing them to me 😉 comes after that (it will happen soon, unless life gets in my way).

@grunfink What does snak do? How would it be of use to any of us who are technical?

[#]snac is an alternative to Mastodon, Friendica o Pleroma. It works mostly the same, but its dependencies on other software elements and the requirements of the hosting machine are much lower. If you self-host your internet presence, it may prove easier and cheaper to maintain than any of the others. It also supports the Mastodon API, so you can (to some extent) use a bunch of Mastodon client apps.

Same here. 30 seconds of downtime. About the same as a system reboot now! Amazing. Thank you for your work on this @grunfink@comam.es!

Here it runs from a Debian Trixie LXC container with unattended-upgrades, so even the snac upgrades are automated and do not require me to do anything. I know that I am on a new version when I open a snac tab in my Web browser and notice some new button or field in the interface.
You can not do a lower maintenance than that, I literally never touched this container after the initial setup.

I assume migrating the other way around (from Mastodon to snac) is something planned for a future release?

Yes; probably the next one, but only time will tell.

I’m enjoying Snac a lot, thank you for your excellent work! I’ve had a look at the code, and it is very well written and readable. That is certainly not a given with C!
