If you follow me here I'm letting you know that I'm moving to @justine@snac.smithies.me.uk on my own #ActivityPub instance called #Snac .

I'll not really be tooting on bsd.cafe anymore but I will keep this account alive as you never know what the future holds.

At the moment there is no way for me to transfer all my amazing followers over to my new instance but work is in progress to resolve that by the Snac dev.

But if you'd still want to follow me then please do give me a follow on the above link ?

Right so my personal #snac instance seems to be working ok and I have managed to import all of the accounts I follow here on bsd.cafe . I'll still be using this account but will try and see how I get on with snac. You may notice that it always shows that I have no followers and that I'm not following anyone. This is intentional by the author of #snac as they feel numbers should not matter which is quite true. Feel free to follow me over there if you haven't already and hello to any new followers.

All of this is hosted in my #HomeLab on a #FreeBSd server jail running over my home FTTP connection. I'm impressed I've gotten this far. Next I'll be doing some html and css customisation's to theme it a little.

I've just setup my own #snac instance and made a test post but I'm not sure anyone can see it ? I'm not even sure it's left the server here? I have the web interface all working and I think I needed to open port 8001 on my firewall too. My user is @justine@snac.smithies.me.uk .

Can anyone confirm if they see this toot ?

This weekend I'm planning to make my self hosted #snac instance live and hopefully I don't unintentionally DDoS my own fibre connection. It's running in a #Bastille jail on my #FreeBSD server Beastie. I still have some customisation to do with CSS for the theme but I'm just interested to see how much load this'll put on my FTTP 1G / 110Mb connection. If all goes well I may well migrate permanently to my own hosted #ActivityPub server ? 🤔 #HomeLab

Today is our 27th wedding anniversary and guess what ?

Yep Julie forgot 🤣. It's progress though as we both usually forget. We've been together for 33 years so life's taken it's toll and that's the excuse we use as to why we forget. 😂

After getting to try the #Snac activity pub server developed by @grunfink on bsd.cafe thanks @stefano , I'm kind of tempted to spin up my own instance. Anyone here other than Stefano that runs their own instance ? Please share you pro's and con's plus any workarounds you have come up with.

Also how are you viewing / posting on mobile ? Are you just sticking with web or using the likes of #Tusky ?

Been seeing posts about #Snac2 and had a quick look. It looks very similar to #Mastodon but without the Java and so on. Are there really any benefits from using it as a server for Mastodon ?? Please do tell me why you'd use it instead or even why you wouldn't as I'm generally interested ???

Just been on the phone and other than giving me £30 compensation they cannot give me another appointment. I have to call them again in 3 weeks to rearrange. What a shower ! Problem is I'm stuck with #OVO due to the Total Heating With Total Control system we have here. They're the only ones that can convert it to an economy 10 smart meter with the switched output for storage heating in Scotland.

I F in knew it ! Been sitting here all day and nothing. The engineer just called from #OVO to say sorry I'm not going to make your smart meter appointment today. The one I'd be fined for if I missed ! Now I've to apparently wait for another appointment and take another day off work. Absolutely raging. Oh well time to power up the #HomeLab

Right that's everything shutdown temporarily for the new smart meter to be fitted. Well that's presuming they don't look at our two meters and say we can't do that.

Normal service will resume once the power is back up.

Going to be shutting down my #HomeLab tomorrow at about 11am UK time for around an hour as we have our electricity supplier coming to allegedly replace our "Total Heating With Total Control" which is being phased out as the signal to switch the second meter comes from a BBC transmitter and is being switched off next year. #OVO swear when I told them of my meter setup that they can replace the two Meters with one smart meter even after months of saying they don't support our configuration. So tomorrow hopefully the engineer will turn up and swap out both for a smart meter ? Or as I've read in forums with folk having the same setup turn up look at it and say no I can't do that. I pray they don't but I've not much faith to be honest. Watch this space. 🙄 #Scotland #Electricity

Has anybody ever tried a PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 2x2 with #FreeBSD ? I currently have a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 which is detected but doesn't work and others in the forums say it doesn't work too. So I wondered whether stay with Focusrite and get a Gen 3 2i2 or go with the PreSonus AudioBox 96 which would give me midi in and out too.

Anybody ???

In between been called out this weekend I've been playing with my #Fairphone4 which has #Calyxos and #MicroG . I've known about #Obtainium for a while but never thought I'd install it until now. Guess who loves it and I get new releases of apps before #Fdroid . I also ditched calyxos default launcher for #NiagraLauncher and I'm really loving the work flow. Even bought the full version and installed the apk with Obtanium. It maybe doesn't look much but I like it. 😍
