The Commission presented a proposal yesterday for Digital Travel Credentials https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_24_5047
With "digitalisation" the border check can be reduced from 30 to 8 seconds. BUT.. to save 22 seconds, people must
Is that making our travel easier? (NO)

@je5perl In Denmark it is not that hard to get a second passport, if I recall correctly, but in a lot of other countries is going to make business a lot easier when you can send your physical passport to an embassy and still be able to travel.

@drgroftehauge The proposal is not about visa applications

@je5perl whenever I see these things, I ask myself “what’s in it for me?” And, to be honest, the advantages outlined don’t outweigh the risks.
It’s not hard to carry passport/ID when crossing a border

@rachel Carrying the physical passport is still required with this proposal, which will not make your "what's in it for me" question easier to answer

@je5perl knew it sounded too good to be true. I'm so glad they're keeping all the browns out (sometimes that includes me). Wouldn't want to overrun now would we? /s

@je5perl Sadly, I had to say this on so many occasions already, but: it is breathtaking to me how so many politicians/policy makers still seem to have absolutely no clue about Democracy and democratic principles in the digital domain. It still seems all too abstract to them and they propose things they imho would not propose for the “offline” world, where they can touch things.
There are enough experts out there, politics should start to listen and take on their responsibilities.

@je5perl, the article: "It will be completely voluntary for travellers to ask for or use this digital version of their documents, free of charge."
But for how long will it be voluntary?!
