I’ve been watching Day9 and Grubby’s StarCraft: Remastered playthroughs and it’s really striking that, while the main game graphics are essentially perfectly improved, the character portraits were completely drained of personality.
I guess that’s just a small version of why WarCraft III: Reforged went so wrong: it’s fairly straightforward (conceptually) to draw up-res’d 2D art, but you need to really understand the vibe to make a new 3D model that feels right.
