That’s some nice beefy power cables in there.

What are you doing? Adding Anderson’s?

@futuresprog

I purchased 2 Kenwood TK-5710H radios, each damaged differently.

One radio had been drilled to punch through the PA deck.

The other one had the logic and exciter boards drilled through.

I swapped the bits while also scouring for metallic debris.

The end is a functional 100 Watt radio, with a spare PA deck minus the final amp module.

Original pigtails for power and accessories were also chopped off. I bridged internally on the other side of the pigtail to enable the onboard speaker in the control head.

I've also been spending time with both Orion and M7100s and I feel like I'm trapped in the Argument Clinic.

Wow that is an unusual amount of damage. What was the cause of that? Seized from an unlicensed operator?

Government surplus equipment.

Some think drilling holes adds value, I guess.

Oh dear oh dear.

Looks like a nice bit of kit. What will you use it for?

You can put out some serious power on 2 metre now!

It'll live in the shack. It has a capacity of 1000 memories.

Without any crypto keys, its still capable of P25 processing unencrypted transmissions.

Was this used as a remote for a local Police or Fire department or something?

@futuresprog

The parameters I found it held when preparing for programming were clearly for law enforcement in Alabama, in a mobile context.

Their departmental policy might be to put a drill through any assets they’re disposing that could contain cryptographic material … but it’s a bit of a stretch to presume they have competence in that regard.
