@nmoo 14 years spent waiting for someone else to make it while I could have been making it myself. Shame.

@nmoo It is 2024 and I'm still waiting for shared hosting providers to support something else other than PHP...

@astrojuanlu have you heard of @ubernauten? 👀

@amxmln @ubernauten I don't want to find niche players that support other tech stacks (I know how to operate a VPS). I want the big ones to move the needle.

@astrojuanlu obviously that would be ideal, of course. 😊
I can’t imagine running Node/Python would be that much more complex than PHP for them—yet often they lock it behind an additional paywall if they do support it at all. 😅

@nmoo something that works great with Astro is @mattrbld, imo. But also, I’m biased. 🤣😅
This comic feels like a reflection of myself, at least until 2021 when I took matters into my own hands. Obviously, I do still have to work with Wordpress at work, but it’s always such a pain. 😅
The alternatives do exist…we just need to make a better effort of convincing non-technical people that they do and are viable alternatives to the big dinosaurs like Typo3, Drupal and WP. 😅

@nmoo Hah. With current events, I totally understand.
Just curious though, with Ghost, BoltCMS and several other quite popular choices seeing the light since then, what specifically about WordPress does that alternative needs to have? Ease of hosting? Multitude of available plugins? Strong BC promise?

@nmoo There's Statamic (https://statamic.com/). Also built with PHP and a great community that builds great plugins.
As with anything: There is a learning curve.
