Watching Inside Out 2 with a six-year old and discussing it is amazing. I know my Ericson from my Piaget, but to truly see a child not understand the concept of jealousy is mind-blowing. She now gets it theoretically, but it still makes no true sense to her.

@MishaVelthuis Both developmental psychologists, but different traditions. Piaget works with maturation as an unfolding of biological dispositions over time, guided by environmental input, while Ericson describes it as psychosocial all the way down (more Freudian elements).

@MishaVelthuis But both handle complex emotions as later-stage processes, there's not necessarily tension between their phenomenona of interest, it's just that with Ericson e.g. jealousy would arise through social conflict, where Piaget would probably call it a biological feature for teens and their social focus.

@MishaVelthuis I'm not super into either, just wanted to signal that I knew the theory behind complex emotions but was amazed to truly see it after this movie (which deals with teenage emotional turmoil, highly recommend).

And yes, I did watch Inside Out 2, and it's very entertaining. Although to be honest, it doesn't beat Inside Out 1 (which I watched just before, to prepare for number 2).
