I'm looking for an introduction to someone at @igalia if any of my masto-peeps knows someone? Maybe @astrojuanlu? I want to replicate the Igalia model (as presented by Valerie Young in her excellent "Inside Igalia" talk https://popularresistance.org/inside-igalia-scaling-a-co-op-beyond-100-members/) for scientific image analysis but as a lifelong academic, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. 😅 So I would suuuuper appreciate some help! 🙏 #FOSS #CoOp

(1) Does Igalia have legal entities in more than one country?

(2) How does Igalia deal with having employees/owners in different countries?

(3) Does Igalia localise pay?

(4) Does Igalia charge consulting as person x hours or lump sums per agreed project or…? Any sample pro-forma consulting agreements?

(5) Would Igalia be open to consulting about its business model? Meta-consulting if you will? 😂 e.g. one thing I would find interesting is to pay for some help with sales/contract management/business development/budgeting while the imaging co-op is still small, then eventually hire for those.

All these operational agreements in Igalia are a living thing, they're constantly evolving, so there aren't answers written in stone, just the current state of affairs giving our possibilities, which we rather not talk about them openly until we reach an agreement among us of what's worth to share.

Said that, you can look for Andy Wingo's blog posts about Igalia. They are a decade old and now things are now different, still they can give you an insight on how some of these questions are handled.

I'd love it if you could look into (5) consulting about consulting? In her talk, Valerie mentions discussions about “federated Igalia”, and I'm eager to be part of that! Igalia has tweaked the model over 20+ years, so I'd rather not reinvent things, and instead learn from your experience! 🙏

And yes I'd love a call if you can find the time! 🙏

Thank you for looking out for me though! 😊 Early days, but I hope that in the next year or so I can write a post about my new co-op and how helpful the Igalia folks were. 😃
