Toot

Written by Heather Migliorisi on 2024-09-08 at 23:56

I’m exhausted and this coming week will be more of the same.

I hired a contractor to install windows and doors they left my house a disaster. Drywall, dust fiberglass shavings from the window jamb being trimmed, fiberglass from insulation…all over every area where they worked.

I had to clean every nook and cranny and toy in my son’s playroom, the kitchen, the living room…And I still have the dining room left to clean.

Literally 😭 because the bedrooms still need the new windows installed.

@hmig Oh no. Do you have time to invest in some drop cloths to cover up everything in the bedroom before they come back? (Or I guess old sheets or tarps or tent-covers might work.)

And then maybe mention politely, maybe after they've done the work, that if they're not going to take responsibility for putting down drop cloths & cleaning up afterwards, they really need to warn homeowners as part of their quote.

Maybe they're used to working for new construction builds where it isn't an issue???

@AmeliasBrain - I did pick up plastic sheeting that has tape on it and if they don’t, I’ll drape off the areas they’re in…but I have so much anxiety about this now (partly because I’m so exhausted from all the cleaning).

I told the head contractor I have to talk to him before they can work tomorrow and I’m going to outline my expectations moving forward.

I’ve had windows and doors installed I put old house and there was zero mess afterwards so this was very unexpected.
